#900 San Blas: Ibedi, a traditional Guna Village (2 days & 2 nights)

Fly to the eastern airstrip of the San Blas territory and discover a genuine guna village dedicated to the sea turtle preservation and sustainable tourism.

Day 1: Transfer to the Marcos A. Gelabert Airport for the 10:30 a.m. flight to Puerto Obaldia, San Blas. Pick up at the airstrip and then a 20 minutes boat tour bordering the coast (optional: a 90 minutes walk along the coast) before getting to Armila Village. Then, arrive at your your private traditional bungalow surrounded by a garden with various types of flowers and butterflies, with its little balcony & hammock, its double bed (or 2 twins) & its screen.

There are only 5 huts for a maximum of 12 guests. The meals are harvested and prepared at the village.

The wildlife is abundant at the river, but also crocodiles, various birds, and sometimes monkeys. The Guna guide speaks English and can answer all your questions. The “ulu” (boat in Guna) doesn’t use engine: you can, on the way back, you can try to paddle yourself!

Return to the village and after dinner, it’s time to watch the turtles mothers who give birth on the long beach. Note that the place is in the top 3 in Central America for the turtle conservation program. This is a unique opportunity, with many more likely to happen between May and August. Children are educated in this spirit of conservation and know how to keep eggs left and keep them warm for the birth of the offspring (baby turtles).

Day 2: You have the option to climb up “El Mirador” (the gazer) to have a beautiful view over both the mainland and the coast. Note that the nearby mountain is the highest of San Blas with 780 meters. You can – for a little extra cost – hire horses and ride to up there. The exotics birds are numerous. One can also see iguanas and other tropical species.

After lunch, the boat will take you to “La Miel”, a nearby village, and you will snorkel to enjoy one of the best beaches of San Blas. Or, with an additional cost negotiating with local native, you can go fishing: there are fish such as groupers, snappers, sierra, tuna, etc…

In the evening, you will assist to the last night party with traditional dances and music.
