12 Days - Travel through the Panama Canal, experience the beauty of the Pearl Archipelago, visit the Embera indigenous community and the legend of their lifestyle, see all the points of Panama City and the Panama Canal.


THIS PACKAGE IS DEDICATED TO FAMILIES: SELECTED ACTIVITIES 

Day 1: Meet and transfer from Tocumen International Airport to the Hotel Tryp Centro.

Day 2: Partial Canal Transit Tour: In the morning, you will be collected for your transfer to Flamenco. There you will take the tour bus, which will take you to the Gamboa area, where the trip starts. You will transit Pedro Miguel Locks. When entering Pedro Miguel Locks you will experience a drop of 9 meters in one step and find the Miraflores Lake, an artificial lake that connects Pedro Miguel Locks and Miraflores Locks. Afterwards you will enter the last set of locks called Miraflores Locks in the Pacific Ocean. You will be sailing the Pacific Ocean on the way to the disembarkation point at Amador Causeway, passing under the Bridge of the Americas (‘Puente de Las Americas’). Panama Bay will be the end of this unique trip. You will spend another night at the Hotel Tryp Centro.

      

Day 3: Flight from Albrook Domestic Airport Marcos A. Gelabert to Contadora Island. Flight duration: 20 minutes. Contadora Island (‘Isla Contadora’) lies at the northern end of the Pearl Island Archipelago. ‘The Pearls’ are Panama’s Pacific version of the popular Bocas del Toro and San Blas islands of the Caribbean side. However, where the Caribbean islands are often drenched during rainy season, during our rainy season on Contadora Island it usually only rains for a few hours during the late afternoon or in the evening. The rest of the day is sunny and ideal for sun lovers. The waters surrounding Contadora Island are typically warm, turquoise colored, and ideal for swimming or snorkeling. Scuba diving, snorkeling, sport fishing, and boat tours are available on the island! You will stay at the ¨Point Hotel¨, a delightful accommodation located close to the airstrip and in front of the Galeón Beach where the ferry arrives.

Day 4: Go on board of the sailboat ‘Destination Unknown’ for a day tour. Sail around the islands, islets or keys, enjoy the remote anchorages, snorkel or scuba dive the untouched reefs, hike the islands, watch the fauna and the flora (bird watching, whale watching), relish beachcombing the deserted islands. Afterwards you will stay another night at ‘Mar y Oro’.

Day 5: Flight back from Contadora to Panama City Albrook Airport and Full day Panama City & Canal Tour: We will take you to the most attractive and interesting sites of the Capital City, including the ruins of Old Panama City, which were destroyed by pirate Henry Morgan in 1671. Continue to the Colonial City or “Casco Viejo“, built in 1673, with special Spanish architecture, and where French workers, led by Ferdinand de Lesseps that initiated the project of the Panama Canal, had their homes. The tour will continue to the traditional and commercial areas, banking area, and the modern Panama City. Also, you will appreciate the biggest engineering structure of this century, considered the “Marvel of the World Number 8”. Learn about its function and history. Afterwards you will see the vessels as they transit through the Miraflores Locks at the Panama Canal and you will be taken to the Amador Causeway, a man made connection of three islands! Overnight at the Hotel Tryp Centro.

Day 6:  Embera Tour: The Embera tribe lives at the shore of the San Juan de Pequenin river. To arrive to the community you have to transit a dam called Lake Alajuela, an hour from Panama City. On the shores of Lake Alajuela there´s a dock called ‘Puerto Vigia’ where you will be transported indiansupriver to the Embera Community by ‘piragua’ (native canoe). This is an hour canoe ride and a wonderful experience out of ‘National Geographic’ you will never forget! You will hear directly from the Indigenous what their life is like: Their hunting, fishing, the agriculture, harvesting of material for their handcraft, how they treat their illnesses and much more. Experience up close the Embera Indigenous traditional dances and see how they produce their body paintings, woven baskets, plates and masks. Walk through the lush and exotic jungle to learn about medical plants. Enjoy a traditional Embera meal comprised of patacones and fried fish/chicken. The Embera are very friendly and open people, they like to share their culture and learn from others. This Panama tour gives you a unique opportunity to learn about this tribe’s way of life! Another night at the Hotel Tryp Centro.

Day 7: Our driver will take you to the Albrook Domestic Airport Marcos A. Gelabert where you take a flight to David, capital of the Chiriquí province. After only one hour flight duration, we will take you from David to Boquete: a beautiful, small town of about 20,000 people in the western highlands of Panama, situated between the Caldera River and Baru Volcano and famous for some of the sweetest oranges and the richest coffees in all of Panama! You will stay at the hotel Isla Verde.

Day 8: Coffee Tour: Take part in the process of bringing coffee from the cherry to the cup! You will learn everything about the coffee process, from when the coffee tree is planted and starts growing, until the way coffee is brewed for you to drink it. You will be able to appreciate the importance of the Ngöbe Buglé indigenous that hand pick the red coffee berries when they are perfectly ripe. You will also have a glance of the shade grown technique which only allows the precise amount of sun on each coffee tree and protects the environment. And you will end with a cupping, in which you will sample different flavors and roasts. Another night at ‘Isla Verde’.

    

Day 9: Breakfast. Then enjoy a horseback ride in the area of Caldera where you can appreciate the beautiful landscape of the Barú Volcano and the Central Cordillera. 

Your adventurous ride through the mountains of Chiriqui will make your holiday in Boquete an unforgettable experience. For three hours you will enjoy the valleys, mountains and volcanic rock walls, where you will have the opportunity to appreciate the palette of green colors of the mountain vegetation and the opportunity to see toucans and other birds soaring through the sky. An excellent ride for the whole family.

Day 10: After your breakfast, participate in the second biggest zip line tour in Central America (canopy). Sensations, overview of the huge trees: a real fun, exciting and educative experience. After than it is time to get down to David, where you will take a flight back to Panama City. From there, a driver will take you to the ‘Gamboa Rainforest Resort’: Located only 30 minutes from Panama City, a unique property nearby the ‘Soberania National Park Rainforest’, on the banks of the Chagres River and Panama Canal. Enjoy the exotic retreat far from the noise and bustle of the city! Colorful sights, natural wildlife and luxurious accommodations make the ‘Gamboa Rainforest Resort’ a one-of-a-kind experience! Overnight at the hotel.

 

Day 11: Today you will enjoy the boat ride on Gatun Expedition which pass through the Panama Canal, giving you the opportunity to see large container ships. On this tour you will have the chance to see wild animals like White Face Capuchin Monkey, howler monkeys and turtles along with alligators and crocodiles living in the lake! 

After lunch we offer you the tour of the aerial passenger line, which rises over a distance of several kilometers from the mainland through the silent forest. There you can see a big variety of intermingled birds with a thousand green shades of trees. Overnight at Gamboa Rainforest Resort in a standard room.
